Process Paper
Right from the beginning, we knew we wanted to choose someone who displayed a different type of leadership than a scientist or a doctor would. We then compiled a list of people such as Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, Walt Disney and Oprah Winfrey. We wanted to do our project on one of these people because they were all inspirational figures that had influenced us at some point during our lives. We originally decided to do our project on Marilyn Monroe because we thought that her leadership and inspiration to women would be an interesting topic. However, after further research, we realized that our topic was not strong enough and we didn’t have enough evidence to support our thesis. We then looked back at our list and decided to change our topic to Oprah Winfrey. We had all grown up hearing about the amazing things that Oprah did to help others, so we thought it would be a strong topic. When we wrote our thesis and researched supporting evidence, our thoughts were confirmed.
We tried to spend at least 1-2 hours each week on research or the website design. One of us researched Oprah's childhood and early adulthood to learn more about her past. Another one of us watched interviews of her to learn about her views and perspectives on various topics that would be used to support our thesis. The last group member looked into the countless charities, the schools she funded, and everything else that supports our thesis. We then compiled all of our information and made sure that each of us had a thorough understanding of everything. We used a combination of reputable online sources as well as books, newspaper articles and videos to conduct our research that we included in our annotated bibliography.
We chose a website as our presentation category because we thought it would be the best way for us to share the information in our project. Also, none of us had created a website before, so it would be a new learning experience that we thought we would enjoy. When adding the information into the project, the three of us plugged in our individual research first. We then added pictures and videos that we found relating to the written text, and finally edited the format and design to make the website more visually appealing.
We had all grown up hearing about Oprah Winfrey and how she was a role model and used her position to help others. When we looked into it more, we found out how much she inspired others through her actions and her leadership. Through the countless charities she has funded, the communities she has provided hope for in education and rights, Oprah has made a large impact on an abounding amount of people. Although Oprah is still relevant and helping the world today, she has already left a legacy through her actions and is a role model to millions of people around the world.
